Saturday Spotlight - Marcie Ciampi
I was fortunate to come across a true diamond when searching on Twitter for my Saturday Spotlight this week. I asked my readers if they or anyone they knew made a change in their life by exercising or eating healthier and @spectrummother immediately responded. I read her web page (www.spectrummother.wordpress.com) and knew she would be perfect for my Saturday Spotlight.
@Spectrummother, better known as Marcie Ciampi, starts off her website with these quotes:
Marcie enjoys reading, writing and educating herself on new topics. She's studied health through books and articles with subjects ranging from saunas to herbs, and has implemented several health regiments into her family's lifestyle. Marcie is a believer that the environment is the cause of so many of her diagnosed ailments, syndromes and diseases. Possibly even the cause of her son's Asperger's Syndrome.
For exercise Marcie likes to walk and swim. She also spends time in her backyard. Marcie is obviously very family-oriented, and enjoys going to her boys' sporting events and church. She strives to be the best person she can, using role models like Jesus and her Catholic Confirmation Teacher, Helen, as her life examples.
My favorite quote from Marcie on her website is, "I dislike very few things and try my best to accept everyone in the journey they are on in life. I strongly believe every individual has something of worth to contribute to the world. And I try my best to be an open, honest and giving spirit."
Marcie wrote a wonderful article for me I would love to share with my readers. This beautifully written article is inspiring, uplifting and motivating.
A Better Today
I try my best to live through positive thinking and proactive measures. Having been faced with the challenges of Firbromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Lyme Disease, and an array of comorbid (coexisting) conditions for nearly a decade, I have had ample opportunity to review my alternatives, options, and treatment plans. Whether you are searching to lose weight, begin a regimen of exercise, or facing a challenging health condition yourself, there are steps you can implement to assist you along the way. The following list of my top four suggestions for anyone on the path to optimal health:
(1) First and foremost, I believe to achieve improved health, you need to have a primary goal. Are you changing your eating habits to lose weight or do you have a deeper purpose, perhaps to nourish your body so you can better provide for your family. Defining your goal brings clarity. Recognize your goal will naturally change. When I first began my health journey, my main goal was to get out of bed and be capable of taking care of my children. Later, I wanted to have more mental clarity. Now, I wish to treat my body as a temple and honor the life I was given. Each person will have a unique goal, and no one goal is better than the next.
(2) A second step in achieving wellness is to know your foods. Read about the wonderful powers of fruits and vegetables. Learn about the healing abilities of garlic and raw onions. Know what happens to the nutritional value of food as it is processed, micro-waved and cooked. There is an abundance of information available on-line and in books. Spend a day at the library devouring nutritional information, visit educational websites, search online used bookstores.
(3) Invest in supplements. There is much to learn about how the human body works; medical and nutritional experts have written numerous accounts on how vitamins and minerals assist the body’s everyday functions. Many chronically ill people are lacking in particular minerals and vitamins. Take time to learn more about your own body’s deficiencies in relations to supplements. With so many options in supplemental nutrients and minerals available, ask people you trust for advice; then do more research. I personally have a cupboard full of supplement, mineral, and herbs I use on different days for specific needs. I learned what was best for me through numerous readings, research, and trial and error.
(4) Have a warrior attitude. I do not view my ailments as a blessing or curse, but as a challenge. I am a fine balance of hope and determination; I fight when I need to fight and rest when I need to rest, without remorse or regret. I am a warrior marching out to battle formidable opponents as much as I am a delicate flower choosing to close my petals inward with the coming of the darkness. I am not a diagnosis. I am not a label. I am acceptance and understanding. I am not limited by the limitations, expectations and advice of health professionals. Nor am I a rebel. I am a doer. I will do what is necessary to instill peace in my mind, body, and spirit. If I go against the grain, so be it. If I run up against a wall, I shall climb it. If I fall down, I shall rest and regroup. If I am attacked, I shall defend myself. If I am overcome with despair, I shall rejoice. If I believe nothing can stop me, than nothing can. Some doors open to a pity-party: there I shall weep and then exit cradling within my arms a new found friend of humility and reflection. Some doors may open to a mystery: there I shall freely search and then depart holding the hand of knowledge. I will continue opening doors, and continuing walking on my journey, because there is no option of turning back. My home is in front of me, not behind me. My primary focus is not on getting better or getting my life back. I am good enough and already have a life. My primary focus is living. When the fear rushes in, I let the fear speak. Pain is not my enemy but a messenger. Fear and Pain are my teachers; when they are silent I know my spirit is most alive. True healing cannot be siphoned out into a precise formula or outlined list. True healing comes from within. Some of us think we are sick and unwell, but in spirit we are glorious victors. Our bodies are our guides; if we listen, they will lead us to higher ground. There is no race too long or mountain too steep we cannot conquer in our minds. The power for a better today is already within us.

@Spectrummother, better known as Marcie Ciampi, starts off her website with these quotes:
I consider myself an empath. I have always been very sensitive to others and my environment.
My life covers a wide range of spectrums.Marcie has a diverse and remarkable background. She was a public school teacher for more than a decade teaching both elementary and middle school. She has also studied family therapy and education during her graduate studies, and hopes to complete her Master's Degree in Education in the next two years. Marcie is a strong advocate for her son, who has Asperger's Syndrome.
I can’t spell but love to write. I love real wheat pizza but eat gluten-free. I love chocolate and the smell of sweet-creamed coffee but avoid caffeine.
What I lack in physical strength and endurance, I make up for in intellect and tenacity.
